Retirement of Widevine Cloud License Service: Trade up to EZDRM

Google has announced the end of life for their Widevine Cloud License Service (CLS) in April 2027. Are you one of the many companies that will be affected by this change? As a long-time trusted partner of Widevine, EZDRM stands ready to provide a seamless transition to a long-term, fully commercially supported DRM as a Service (DRMaaS) solution. EZDRM brings a comprehensive revenue security upgrade for users of Widevine and other DRMs in what the industry recognizes as the gold -standard of cloud-centric offerings.

In April 2027, Google will be ceasing operations for their own Widevine Cloud License Service. EZDRM would like to make the transition from CLS a painless experience for existing Widevine CLS users. The EZDRM multi-cloud Widevine offering not only offers straightforward integrations with all the major Widevine encoding vendors, but also provides expert support throughout the entire transition process. This ensures a smooth experience for service providers as they adapt to this change.

Widevine CLS customers with large-scale media libraries can easily import content keys for their existing encoded content, minimizing or even eliminating the need for immediate reprocessing.

The EZDRM solution offers an extensive array of media security capabilities that not only align with the existing options provided by CLS, but also go beyond this revenue security baseline. We are committed to constantly enhancing and expanding our capabilities to cater to the evolving needs of Widevine customers in the future.

"Our track record of working with Widevine over the years is second to none, and this is a perfect opportunity to provide a smooth journey for service operators in their transition from CLS," commented Olga Kornienko, COO and Co-Founder at EZDRM. "Furthermore, our well-established partnerships with the encoding and packaging service providers recommended by Google/Widevine enable us to collaborate closely during the transition process. This collaborative approach significantly reduces the overall risks and costs involved in migrating from CLS."
