We are pleased to introduce a new EZDRM visual framework that emphasizes the critical role of a multi-faceted approach to revenue security in streaming video. This article is the first in a series that will explore how evolving combinations of technologies - from EZDRM and our industry partners - can effectively safeguard video revenue streams. We would love expand on this approach when you meet us at NAB 2026 W2260.
There is a growing consensus that streaming will soon become the primary delivery medium for live events. The parallel with the dominance of streaming services in the VOD market is hard to escape. As streaming gains ground, it will reshape the balance of power in live event distribution and redefine the primary revenue sources for event coverage - one of the media industry’s largest income streams. This transition may seem to be gradual, but the sunset of broadcast event dominance appears as inevitable as the demise of the horse and buggy once automobiles became reliable and affordable.
Challenges in Securing Streaming Revenue
There’s a lot of handwringing about how to secure these high value revenue streams. We believe technology is rising to meet that challenge. However, it’s not likely that a “one size fits all” magic wand solution will emerge. Instead, best practices suggest a multi-faceted security strategy.
To illustrate this concept, we are introducing the visual framework of a Revenue Security Prism. Over the coming months, we will use this metaphor to illustrate how combining multiple security dimensions strengthens the protection regime. The Prism viewpoint emphasizes that the best security profile for service providers will be one that meets the specific threats associated with each type of event and region. This perspective necessarily involves the use complementary technologies and vendors, the application of which may be expected to shift over time as attack vectors evolve.

Complementary Security Solutions
From the EZDRM perspective, one foundation color in this spectrum of security options naturally represents Digital Rights Management (DRM). DRM continues to provide a fundamental layer of rights information communicated between the service provider and the consumer. The licenses used in DRM are the mechanical way to specify locks and limits on consumption, such as screen sharing, that essentially represent the license constraints legally required by the content owner. But even at EZDRM, we recognize that DRM alone cannot address all the revenue security challenges our customers face. The "one key" approach to DRM encryption as it is implemented today, is vulnerable to many attack vectors available to today's pirate operators. It's inevitable, therefore, that the value of DRM need to be complemented with other tools and technologies that extend the protection envelope.
As we expand on this Prism theme, we want to highlight in coming posts some of these other complementary and critically important tools offered by our partners. These will include:
-
Watermarking: tracing content and accountability
-
Key rotation and localization: mechanisms to vary stream encryption over time and geography such as EZDRM's Precision Envelope Management tools.
-
Geofencing: reinforcing geographic consumption limitation inherent in content licensing
-
VPN detection: detecting and defeating tools that try to hide consumption locations.
-
Provenance Integrity: Leveraging C2PA to emphasize the value of content from trusted sources
-
Session tokenization: wrapping short-lived cryptographic tokens that tie playback to a specific session or device.
And a number of others, meeting specific and critical challenges in revenue security.
Establishing this multifaceted security profile is aligned to goals for long term health of the streaming business. As viewership grows and resilience becomes more critical, effective combinations of existing security technologies will continue to evolve. As audiences grow, combining advanced security technologies and strong partnerships is crucial for future success.
