Use cases for WebRTC are growing every day–everything from eSports, wagering, auctions, meetings/town halls, and live events such as concerts and sports matches. But these applications have been limited till now by an incomplete and non-standard approach to the integration of content security. EZDRM now has a novel, comprehensive solution to fill that gap that is entirely based on standard encoding technologies and an integration with native client-side, hardware-supported content security functionality. In other words, you can build your low-latency WebRTC application and be assured that your content is as well protected as it is in typical HTTP ABR delivery systems.

The EZDRM WebRTC-DRM solution ingests content following industry standards of CMAF with CBCS  encoding and encryption workflow. Via our EZDRM Transport Server module (RTC-TS), this secure origin stream is directed via a WebRTC connection for delivery to client devices.

An additional EZDRM Transport Connector (RTC-TC) player component is added to the typical client support in, for example, an HTML5 player. This component then takes the incoming media stream from the WebRTC connection to create an interface with the local device Content Decryption Module (CDM), offering native SDK-less DRM support via the Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) on the client device. Native DRM license support is requested and applied via the CDM to offer a full range of DRM business models and output control configurations for the rendered video. This approach also can support session-based watermarking technologies.
