Now there is a new way to secure, control and optimize video distribution. EZDRM introduces Precision Envelope Management, the ability of fine-grain envelope encryption and key management of a video stream as a true complement to DRM security tools. EZDRM's Precision Envelope Management enables a wide range of control mechanisms that have previously been too awkward or resource-intensive to achieve in video streaming services, including lossless rapid key rotation, granular distinct security key management, and challenges such as HIPAA compliance.
The EZDRM Envelope Encryption approach for streaming aligns with the NSA permissions model in the same way that Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) aligns with online identity assurance. A consumer of the content needs access to both the envelope encryption key and the DRM key ensuring a system of tiered trust and mitigating the compromise of either single factor. Where DRM rules remain unchanged for long periods, and are the same for all consumers, the envelope key ID and it's encryption have a much more specific time window and distribution granularity,
The novelty of the EZDRM approach comes from decoupling DRM robustness rules like output protection and business-related DRM consumption policies from the mechanics of the stream encryption process. In use cases like protection of live streamed events, where it is advantageous to rotate the encryption keys used over relatively short time periods, the overhead of DRM license regeneration becomes problematic at any kind of scale. Envelope Encryption solves this challenge - and many others - with an efficient and highly scalable key management approach that aligns with both DRM requirements and enables frequent encryption key updates.
EZDRM will be exhibiting this new approach at the IBC 2025 show - please book a demonstration time.
